Wakefield Families Together – Support for Parents and Carers

Everyone needs a little help and support at some point.

​

Wakefield Families Together brings local services together to make it easier for children, young people and families to find the right support at the right time. Support is available across the Wakefield district through Family Hubs, Youth Hubs and a range of early help services.

​

What support is available?

Parents and carers can access help with a wide range of issues, including:

• parenting and family relationships

• behaviour, routines and boundaries

• emotional health and wellbeing

• child development and SEND

• speech, language and communication

• parental conflict and relationship difficulties

• money, debt, employment and housing concerns

• connecting with other parents and carers

• support for young carers

• activities, groups and workshops for children, young people and families.

 

Family Hubs

Family Hubs provide welcoming local places where families can access advice, guidance, activities and practical support.

They support families from pregnancy through childhood and adolescence, with support available up to age 18, or up to age 24 where a young person has SEND. Families can contact or visit their local hub to find out what support is available.

Youth Hubs

Youth Hubs provide support and activities for young people, including opportunities to take part in social activities, sports, skills and employability sessions and to access advice and support in a safe environment.

Team Around the School

Where a child or family needs some additional help, Team Around the School can bring together relevant professionals to help families access the right support.

This may include help with issues such as behaviour, attendance, emotional wellbeing or wider family difficulties. The aim is to provide help early, before problems become more difficult to manage.

Online support for parents

Wakefield Families Together also provides access to online parenting courses for families who may find it difficult to attend sessions in person.

Courses include programmes such as Triple P Positive Parenting Programme, Solihull, Separating Better and Who's in Charge, alongside other parenting support.

 

Start for Life

Families expecting a baby or with very young children can also access Start for Life services, providing support from pregnancy through to a child's second birthday.

 

Holiday activities

Wakefield Families Together also supports WF Happy Healthy Holidays, providing free activities for eligible children and young people during the school holidays.

 

You do not have to manage things alone

If something is becoming difficult at home, you do not need to wait until it becomes a crisis before asking for help.

Early support can often make a real difference. If you are unsure what help might be suitable for your family, you can speak to a member of the Keats Pastoral or Safeguarding Team, who can help you explore the support available.
