Post 16 NCFE Introduction to Sports Coaching
The NCFE Level 1 Introduction to Sports Coaching is designed for Post 16 learners who are passionate about sport and interested in taking their first
steps into coaching, leadership, and the sports industry. This programme provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment where learners can
develop practical coaching skills, confidence, and a strong foundation for future study and employment.
Aims and Objectives
The course aims to introduce learners to the core principles of sports coaching, including safe practice, communication, leadership, and session planning.
Learners will develop an understanding of the role of a coach, gain hands-on experience in delivering practical activities, and build essential employability
skills such as teamwork, professionalism, and self-management. The programme is structured to build confidence, motivation, leadership skills and
a positive attitude to learning.
High-Quality Teaching and Learning
Delivery is led by suitably qualified coaches and ex-professional players who bring real-world experience and industry insight into the classroom and training environment. Teaching is engaging, practical, and learner-focused, ensuring that theory is brought to life through meaningful coaching experiences. High standards are maintained through clear assessment, regular feedback, and continuous support for learner progress.
Inclusive and Personalised Provision
The programme is fully inclusive and designed to meet the diverse needs of Post 16 learners. Individual learning plans, tailored support, and differentiated delivery ensure that every learner can achieve their potential. A strong focus on wellbeing, confidence building, and personal development underpins the course, creating a positive and thriving learning environment.
Facilities and Learning Environment
Learners benefit from outstanding facilities, including a brand-new 3G pitch that supports high-quality practical coaching and training sessions. These modern facilities enhance the learning experience and reflect professional sporting environments, helping learners prepare for progression and employment in sport.
Progression Opportunities
These pathways support learners in advancing their coaching knowledge, academic study, and performance development, with opportunities to move towards higher-level qualifications both with KEATS EE, progression into mainstream FE establishments, apprenticeships, or employment within the sports sector. We are also very fortunate to have links to the VLUK and Pontefract Collieries FC Scholarship programme which offers BTEC L2 and L3 Sport qualifications and also includes the ability to play in highly competitive leagues, representing the club and programme both regionally and nationally.
